No Straight Lines

personal branding for the zigzag career

Hosted by Kelsey, with Thamina Stoll appearing. First, the thing we want you to hear: a career with turns in it is a career with range, and nothing about yours needs an apology. The market only punishes the unexplained zigzag. A recruiter gives your profile under a minute, and if your path tells no story in those seconds, she writes one for you. Hers says unfocused. Yours would say range. So we’ll sit down together, find your through-line, name it, and turn it into a sentence you’d be proud to say out loud.

WHY THIS PAYS

✻ The sentence you write becomes your LinkedIn About opener and your answer to “walk me through your background,” the question every zigzag woman gets asked and every hire answers well.

✻ Range prices higher when it reads as strategy. You stop apologizing for the detours and start charging for them.

✻ A legible story flips the direction of your search. Recruiters, clients, and panels start finding you, and inbound beats every application you’ll ever send.

THIS IS YOU IF YOU'VE BEEN THINKING

"I've had four roles and no way to explain how they connect."

"I'd rather someone else described what I do, because I get it wrong out loud."

LIVE ONLY · NOTHING IS RECORDED

There is no replay link and there won't be one. The room is capped at 20, cameras are on while we work, and nothing said in it leaves it.

SPECIAL GUEST

Thamina Stoll
thamina, guest of honor

Thamina Stoll is Lead Account Manager, Strategic Accounts at LinkedIn. Outside the day job she runs The Sheconomist, a newsletter helping women flip the script on money, career, and wellbeing.

She built an audience of 30,000+ followers while holding down both. She has done the thing most people say they have no time for, and she is honest about what it costs her. We'll ask her how she named her lane, what she posted before anyone was reading, and what the newsletter costs her week to week.

Have a question for her? Reply to your confirmation email with it. We pull three into the live interview.

go check her profile and her newsletter before you book. we'd rather you did.

THE RUN OF BRUNCH

1:00 Welcome, and everyone rates how ready they feel to tell their career story out loud
1:03 Kelsey teaches: every role is a chapter, and the through-line running under all of them
1:15 Thamina, interviewed on her own chapters, then eleven minutes of your questions
1:38 Heads-down: three timed sprints, and a partner who names your through-line back to you
2:12 Share-outs, where your partner introduces you with your own sentence
2:22 One post, one date, and that readiness rating again

WHY IT'S BUILT THIS WAY

✻ None of our activities run longer than 23 minutes; built intentionally to be educational, but bite-sized.

✻ You write for 34 of the 90 minutes. You leave with a sentence written, and your nonlinear career detangled.

✻ You don't read your own sentence at the end. Your partner reads it to the room. Saying your own story out loud is the hardest part, so we took it off your plate.

before you ask

Do I have to be on camera?

Cameras on while we work, off while you eat. If you need a few minutes dark, take them.

I'm not job searching. Is this for me?

Yes. The 20th is for anyone whose career story needs words, searching or not. The Search Party, our job-hunt brunch, returns in October.

What if I'm the quietest one in the room?

Perfect. The format does the introducing for you. On the 20th your partner reads your sentence to the room, and share-outs are structured, never a cold call.

house rules

✻ Cameras on is lovely, cameras off while you eat is law.
✻ Questions mandatory. Polish banned. Drafts welcome.
✻ What's shared at brunch stays at brunch.

from the birdies who came before

Ten virtual gatherings in, 150+ women have told us what matters most in their careers and where they get stuck. The answer, again and again: the story. This topic came straight from those conversations. The brunches are the working version of what we heard: fewer seats, sleeves up, something finished before you log off.
